The battel betweenTencent QQ VS Qihoo 360

A few weeks ago, Tengxun, the producer of the most popular online chatting software, was accused by 360 anti-virus for infringing customers` privacy when providing their services. This commercial competition later on lead to a dramatic speech battle involving several groups, which share the similar feeling over the issue(sony vgp-bps15 battery, sony vgp-bpl15 battery).

On 27 September, 2010, 360 firstly released its new software, named ‘privacy protector’, to monitor the actions of those privacy aggressive software, which is in fact, QQ. QQ is an online chatting software produced by Tengxun, and has thousands of millions of customers in China. 360 claimed that QQ automatically scan through the users hard disks when they run the program without informing them in advance. What’s more, since all the actions are conducted behind, users can hardly recognize that their computers are actually being ‘checked’. Neither can they figure out the way to stop it.

Users are forced to “circusee”

Once released, this message aroused a chaos among Chinese netizens. On 28 September, which is the following day, Tengxun posted a journal on its headline, revealing the scandals about 360 browser distributing pornography. In the same day, 360 clarified the rumor, saying that it was only a n act of revenge.

In the following week, 360 kept on updating its official website, telling users how to know whether they are being ’scanned’ or not. They also directly reminded users to shut down their QQ whenever they are doing online financial transactions or similar activities, in which they may be asked to key in important, private, personal information(sony vgp-bps8 battery, sony vgp-bpl8 battery).

Encouraged by the actions of 360, other companies started to accuse Tengxun as well, and this include various kinds of groups. New stories kept on pumping out. Besides infringing users` privacy, Tengxun is accused for infringement of copyright and market fairness. Many of them penalized Tengxun for ‘taking advantages of monopoly’, considering the fact that QQ has domain the Chinese market for years. It seems that most of these groups turned against Tengxun because they have been defeated by Tengxun in respective fields.

Well, at this point, it seems that Tengxun has become the public enemy. It does not only need to strive to win back users` trust, but is in faced with all the legal affairs as well. 360 as well as other several firms, are ready to sue Tengxun over the abuse of internet, hoping to kick QQ out of the market.

Form my perspective however, such practice is no longer for the sake of we users` rights. Instead,

this sounds more like another term of commercial strategy, or more exactly, a political strategy.

Since 360 is a government-supported firm, it always stands for the government’s interest. On the other hand, with the spread of QQ, there is an increasing interaction among the netizens. People start discussing about the news and expressing their feelings much more freely than before. This makes our government pretty insecure, for there are increasing doubts, involving the 64’s incident and so on(sony vgp-bps9 battery, sony vaio vgn-fz battery).

Take myself as an example, after the installing ‘privacy protector’, I can no longer log in to the my Q-zone, a self-own space similar to ‘my space’ and ‘blogger’. As an overseas student, I used to share my life with my friends and family in China via the blog posts. Now everything just becomes inaccessible. I feel rather irritated. This seems more likely to be a upgrade of the formal censorship. In fact, whether there is really an act of infringing privacy or not is not the focus. The focus is that those applications like Q-zone finally stop functioning.

I don’t think we users can actually benefit from such protection. With such protector, we actually kind of shut up, no longer talking about all those stuff. And it feels really bitter. Things are going out of control, and people are getting more and more doubtful, feeling insecure about the government, while our government just don’t do the right thing. I know that letting go the freedom of speech may provoke a big effect in the population, owing to the big mistake made in the past, but making new lies to conceal the old ones is just not the right practice(dell latitude d630 battery, dell latitude d830 battery).

Perhaps the government is just not ready to accept the penalization, but I don’t think our population have that much patience to wait for confession.
