Jewelry Making for Beginners

If you’re reading this article, you’ve recently required a desire for one reason or another to make

jewelry. I caught the fever one day sony vaio vgn-fz keyboard, sony vaio vgn-fz15 keyboard in the mall when I decided I could make the necklace I saw and I could make it for less money. Two days, eight hours and several attempts later I had the necklace I wanted. On that day 12 years ago a passion was born. I am a completely self-taught jewelry maker and I attribute much of that to the Internet. If you’re a beginner there are a multitude of resources at your disposal including this website. Before I start the tutorial, I do have several great first steps for you to get started:

First, take out all the jewelry you own and look at it in a new way. See how the clasp is attached and how the beads are linked together. Make mental notes or if you’re like me actually take notes so that you remember aspects you like about the necklaces and even aspects you don’t.

Next, go to your local chain craft store for materials. I love to use really nice quality materials and have learned much about gemstones and metals over the course of this jewelry journey but as a beginner I wanted to use materials that weren’t too expensive. I wanted to be able to do the materials justice. I wasted quite a gateway nv-59 keyboard, gateway nv-78 keyboard bit of stringing wire and crimps in the first few attempts. Your local craft store will have a wide selection of beads, kits, tools and books all at mid-range prices. Most of these stores publish a 40% or 50% off a regular priced item coupon in the area newspaper and that can be a huge help if you need to purchase your first set of tools.

In addition to your local craft store, your town may also host bead shows. I know in my town there is at least one every quarter. Sometimes I have driven to others and I’ve even flown to a few. These shows are for vendors of beading and jewelry related products (beads, findings, wire, chain, etc.) to sell their wares. I’ve gotten many a bead deal at these shows and often return appearing as if I found a pirate’s chest full of jewels!

When you make the decision to create your own jewelry you are a do-it-yourself type of person. You want to create something beautiful either for your own use or for someone else’s. Typically we’re also a very resourceful type and I encourage you to think outside the box. I have used so many different items to create jewelry from old earrings and scarf holders to most recently vintage belt buckles. It is quite the ride sony vaio vgn-fz340e keyboard, sony vaio vgn-fz345e keyboard with a lot of thrills along the way. Enjoy it and don’t be afraid to experiment and get started!
